Traditional Japanese Accommodations
Hazuki Kyoto offers Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring, antique wooden fixtures from century-old Niigata and Kyoto houses, and traditional futon bedding. Rooms range from 28m² to 44m², accommodating 2-4 guests. All include high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, heated floors, wall heating, and private bathrooms with Shigaraki pottery bathtubs and wash bowls.
Architectural Design Philosophy
Designed by Kyoto native architect Mr. Hashimoto, the property incorporates Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's 'In Praise of Shadows' aesthetic through carefully considered down-lighting and Japanese paper screens. Sliding doors, wicket doors, Kurado, ranma screens, and beams are authentic antiques, creating a connection to Japan's historical architecture.
Gion Neighborhood Location
Situated in Gion, Kyoto's geisha district between the Kamogawa River and Takase canal. Seven-minute walk to Sanjūsangen-dō temple and Rokuharamitsu-ji temple. Six-minute walk to Kyoto National Museum. Twenty-minute walk to Hanamikoji Street and Kenninji temple. Twenty-five-minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
Japanese Cultural Experience
Features displays of Japanese lacquer ware, tea ceremony items, traditional dolls, and folding screens. Provides single-room air conditioning, sealed accommodation cleaning, and optional cleaning service cancellation. Offers face masks and thermometers for guests, with first aid kit available.
Unique Bathing Experience
All bathrooms feature handcrafted Shigaraki pottery bathtubs, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns known for rustic appearance. The rough surface contours to the body, providing a distinctive bathing experience unlike conventional tubs.
“This unassuming ryokan impressed me with its traditional charm and the owner's dedication to hospitality, seemingly making every guest feel personally welcomed. Though a bit of a walk to Kyoto Station, the warm floors and traditional atmosphere offer an authentic experience. I think that the blend of attentive service and a well-kept space makes it a standout.”
